Applied Ecology Lab

This lab is the joint effort of many people that share a common principle: Ecology and Conservation must be political to address the real-world problems. We are interested in all kinds of human interventions on natural systems and how biotas respond to them. Functional ecology, landcape ecology, restoration, conservation sciences and political ecology move us.

Our research team is proud of all human diversity and we welcome all interested people to join and work with us.

Forest restoration and WEF-Nexus

Forest restoration and WEF-Nexus

This project aims to address the nexus among water, energy, food and forest security in the Brazilian Caatinga. We are uncovering and quantifying the relationship between forest and many ecosystem services involved on water, energy and food securities.

Peld - Catimbau (ILTER Network)

The present project aims to assess how human disturbance and changes in rainfall regime affect the Caatinga ecosystem’s biota at different levels of biological organization (i.e, from populations to ecosystem level), by correlating these aspects with the theoretical reference shown in macro trends already documented in the tropics. The LTER Catimbau is also part of the ILTER (International Long Term Ecological Research) network joins several other long-lasting projects developed around the world.
